1st test is $65, any subsequent testing needed is priced as follows: 2nd test is $55, 3rd test and any afterward are $45 each.

Why a Progesterone test? Knowing when to breed requires knowledge of the estrus cycle. Without this testing, you can likely miss your bitch’s cycle completely. Another benefit is to breed at the most opportune time that the eggs drop to increase litter size, but also ensure that the gestational age of the puppies are close in proximity to avoid both a ‘singleton’ issue and potentially a partial litter of premature puppies. The cycle begins with a rise in estrogen. Just before LH rises to a peak, progesterone begins its rise. Following the rise in progesterone will indicate the best time to breed. Typically, bitches ovulate about two days after LH peak and it takes about two days for the ovulated eggs to mature so that sperm can fertilize these eggs. The fertile period in a bitch’s cycle is 4–7 days from LH peak.

Because all bitches are different, and each cycle can be different, we recommend seeing your bitch within 5-7 days from the start of her cycle to examine her and acquire baseline information. If your bitch cycles quickly, it is better to make the first appointment sooner than later.

Why do Artificial Insemination? Artificial insemination is the best solution to keep both the stud and the bitch safe. AI eliminates the potential harm to a male from an anxious female caused by her nipping or yanking and causing damage to the male during a ‘locked’ position. Likewise, any threat to a female from an overbearing male is eliminated as well. Another obvious reason for AI is when the desired breeding pair are unable to naturally breed due to height discrepancies. We offer artificial insemination (AI) with fresh, chilled, or frozen semen. We are happy to accomodate with our own personal studs or a stud of your choosing.

AI techniques include vaginal insemination, transcervical insemination, and surgical implant. Paw Haven Puppies offers Vaginal insemination. This is where the sperm is placed in the vaginal vault, right at the rim of the cervix. This is most similar to natural breeding and yields a very high success rate.
